How can you become a part of the American Red Cross?
Every day, the Asheville-Mountain Area Chapter of the American Red Cross helps people in emergencies, whether it's hundreds of disaster victims or one sick child who needs blood. Our vital work is made possible by people just like you, who learn how good it can feel to lend a helping hand. Red Cross "everyday heroes" are all ages and come from all walks of life. Everyone has something special to offer... including you!
We can work with you to provide rewarding experiences, whatever your schedule. Think you don't have any skills to offer? You'd be surprised. And, if you need training, we'll be happy to provide it. We depend on our volunteers, who constitute 97 percent of our total work force, to carry on our humanitarian work in our local community.
Every year, the Red Cross is there for hurricanes, floods, and other disaster victims. In 2008, over 400 individuals were given food, shelter and immediate hope after falling victim to 106 local disasters. Over 25,000 Western North Carolina residents turned to us to learn lifesaving skills and receive preparedness instruction though classes in the workplace and in the community. Countless thousands of lives were saved by blood donations collected in Western North Carolina. These are just a few examples of how more than one thousand Asheville-area citizens served their community through Red Cross volunteerism projects and services in this last year.
